 Do Something Kind For Yourself 





Self-care is not selfish or self-indulgent. We cannot nurture others from a dry well. We need to take care of our own needs first, so that we can give from our surplus, our abundance. When we nurture others from a place of fullness, we feel renewed instead of taken advantage of.

You deserve kindness 

It is always a good idea to extend a little kindness to ourselves. As teachers (or educators) we are in a giving profession so filling ourselves up is actually really important. 

How might you show a little kindness to yourself today? Here are some ideas to start off with... 

  • go for a walk 
  • spend a few minutes taking some deep breaths 
  • slowly eat a favourite food and really savour the flavour 
  • have a luxurious bath or shower 
  • visit a beach, park, river or stream 
  • do a little gardening 
  • read a book 
  • spend some time doing a hobby 
  • get outside for some fresh air 
  • say kind things to yourself 
  • take yourself shopping 
  • take yourself to the movies 
  • go on an outing with people that make you smile 
  • talk to a friend 
  • gather or buy yourself some flowers 
  • do some journaling 
  • give yourself permission to do nothing for a while 
  • have a nap if you need one 
  • ask for help with a job or chore you need to do 
  • paint your toenails or visit a beautician 
  • meditate
  • go out for a coffee or a meal  
  • dance 
  • pray 
  • play a game 
  • visit a museum or art gallery (there are a number online now too!) 
  • watch a funny video or TV programme or read some cartoons 
  • serve yourself healthy food 
  • drink lots of water 
  • go to bed a little earlier 
  • ask for a hug- having a 20 second hug is good for us! 
  • have an adventure- go somewhere new or do something new 
  • have a device free/screen free time 
  • enjoy cooking a healthy meal 
  • do a crossword or jigsaw puzzle 

This is by no means a definitive list! What would you add to it? The combination of things that bring us joy or makes us feel good is unique to us. Knowing what makes us feel good makes it easier for us to show kindness to ourselves, and then we are in a better place to show kindness to others too!  

Whatever today brings I hope that there is space for you to do something kind just for you because you are worth it.
